My weekend in Copenhagen was short but sweet. We visited my 2 best friends from college as they are studying abroad in Copenhagen. We arrived on Friday afternoon after a long morning of traveling, and we were exhausted. I was a little sick and wasn’t feeling well so when we arrived to their apartment, I went straight back to bed. After a little nap, we all woke up and decided to make the most of our time here and have Paige and Brianna (the friends we visited) show us around the city.

We had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in the center of Copenhagen. I got a waffle and a side of fries (an interesting mixture), and it was great but very expensive. Paige and Brianna explained to us how expensive Copenhagen is and how it has been hard. I noticed that the price difference between Spain and Denmark was crazy. In Barcelona, I would usually be paying $15 for a nice breakfast, but in Copenhagen, I paid $32 for a waffle and fries.

After lunch, we decided to walk around the city for a bit and we saw the beautiful buildings and canals. Unfortunately, it started raining and it was around 38 degrees, so the weather was pretty miserable. We continued to walk around and take some photos, and then went to the shopping area where we did some window shopping before going back to their apartment to relax before dinner.

Once we got back to the apartment, we all ended up taking naps because we were still so tired. After our nap, we began to get ready for dinner. We caught up, showered, did our hair and makeup, got dressed, and had a few drinks while listening to music before heading to our dinner reservation.

We got dinner at a nice Italian place where we had drinks, pizzas, and pasta. The dinner was also very expensive, which I was expecting, but still unfortunate. After dinner, we headed to a bar and got some drinks and met some cool people from Denmark. The people in Denmark are very different from the people in Barcelona, where I noticed they seemed less outgoing. Nonetheless, I loved meeting new people here. After the bar, we went to a club nearby and had a great time. We were the only Americans in the entire club which was definitely interesting, because I’m used to seeing so many Americans and study abroad students at the clubs in Barcelona. After the club, we decided to head to McDonalds for a late night snack. Finally, at around 5 in the morning, we called it a night and headed home and went to bed.

The next day didn’t really go as planned, but I still had a great day. We all woke up at around 3 in the afternoon, due to the fact that all of us forgot to set alarms the night before. We were a little bummed because we were hoping to explore more of Copenhagen, but at this point there was nothing we could really do. We all were craving American food, so we found an American diner near by and ate there. It was pretty funny seeing the American diner and how people in Denmark perceive Americans. Regardless, I ordered a grilled cheese, mozzarella sticks, french fries, and a milkshake and felt like I was in heaven.

After our late lunch, we walked around for a bit before it got dark out and we headed back to the apartment.

Once we got back to the apartment we all decided to shower and relax for a while before we starting getting ready for dinner and a night out. At around 8pm, we got ready for dinner and showered and got dressed. We headed to a rooftop Italian restaurant where we got bottomless champagne. Paige and I split a pizza, and we drank, talked, and had a lot of fun.

After we finished dinner, we headed to a bar for a few hours before going to the club. The bar we went to was a cool concept – you got to pay 7 euro to spin the wheel, and the wheel had many different options on what drink you got. I spun the wheel, and got 3 shots of Sambuka. Paige spun the wheel, and got 3 corona beers. Brianna spun the wheel and got 10 shots! It was very interesting.

After a few hours at the bar, we decided we were ready to go to the club. We went to a club called Hive that was recommended to me by many different people. Hive was a lot of fun, we met so many new people and listened to great music. It was very crowded and it was a good time. They also had so many different places in the club to take pictures.

After a few hours, we were all exhausted and decided to call it a night. We made another quick pitstop at McDonalds for a bite to eat before heading back to the apartment and going straight to bed.

The next morning, we woke up and immediately started packing for our flight back to Barcelona. We ordered bagels for delivery, and ate them together while we packed. Finally, we said our goodbyes to Paige and Brianna and headed to the airport.

Although Copenhagen didn’t exactly go as planned, I still had a great time and was so happy I got to catch up with some of my friends from college back at home.
